Active Age
Active Age Groups are social gatherings for people aged 55 and over, who want to remain active and involved into their retirement. Active Age Groups are run by their members, for their members. Every group is different and has its own identity, but generally they are a place to meet new friends, gain new skills through classes and activities, do some exercise, gain information about relevant entitlements and services and have a cuppa and a chat! Many groups also go on holidays and various outings throughout the year.
Leitrim Development Company support and provide information to 23 Active Age Groups in Leitrim and West Cavan, in the following areas:
Aughnasheelin, Ballinamore, Bornacoola, Blacklion, Carrick on Shannon, Carrigallen, Cloone/ Aughavas, Dowra, Drumkeeran, Drumreilly, Dromahair, Drumsna, Drumshanbo, Fenagh, Glenfarne, Glencar, Gortletteragh, Leitrim Village, Manorhamilton, Mohill, Kiltoghert, Kiltyclogher, Rossinver.
All of these Active Age Groups form an Active Age Network to share information, collaborate on projects/activities and to socialise. There are over 300 Active Age Group members across County Leitrim, who enjoy the friendship and camaraderie and exercising their body and mind.
Leitrim Development Company holds a number of events each year, in conjunction with Leitrim Sports partnership, for Active Age Group members. People get the opportunity to take part in a number of workshops on a range of interests, from samba drumming to drama, from cake-decorating to jewellery-making – there is always something for everyone.
