Care & Repair
Care and Repair is a handyman service for people aged 65 years and over, living in North Leitrim and West Cavan, who do not have a friend, neighbour or relative that can undertake small jobs for them (Care & Repair is a Community Partnership with Age Action). This project was established in 2012 with cross-border funding from ‘Cooperation and Working Together (CAWT)’, following a consultation with Older People living in North Leitrim and West Cavan, who identified a need for support with household jobs that are too small for a trades person to undertake, but affect the safety, security or well-being of the person.
Handymen are available to undertake any minor household job (under two hours), such as changing a light bulb, hanging curtains, putting up smoke alarms and safety rails, minor painting and gardening jobs, etc. This service is not designed to take work away from trades people, so if a job takes over two hours we won’t be able to do it. All materials must be supplied by the service-user, although the labour is free we would recommend a donation to Care & Repair, to maintain tools.
All the Care & Repair handymen are employment scheme participants and have kindly agreed to undertake these jobs in addition to their existing work obligations in the community. All handymen have Care and Repair I.D. badges and have been Garda vetted.
