Through the community development programme, Leitrim Development
Company provides support and training to community based groups to develop
responses to meet the needs of their local areas and promote social
inclusion. A range of marginalised groups are supported including active
age, people with disabilities, women, lone parents and carers.
Actions
Development support
is provided to new and established groups with start up costs, planning,
accessing funding and implementing projects to benefit their areas.
Groups receive assistance for small scale environmental and infrastructural
improvements e.g. making premises accessible, purchasing equipment or
furnishing a meeting room.
Capacity building for people parenting alone- a one parent family support
group is currently being established and training organised.
Women's groups are supported to provide educational and training opportunities.
Active age groups are provided with development support, information,
funding for new projects and networking meetings.
Residents associations on local authority estates are provided with
assistance to maintain their estates, update their plans and undertake
training.
A FETAC accredited 'Care in the Home' programme is planned for people
providing care in the home on a voluntary basis.
Support is provided to the following community networks: South Leitrim
Community Network, North Leitrim Community Network, Leitrim Residents
Network, Leitrim Active Age Forum and Leitrim Women's Network.
A
Community Health Forum is currently being established for the Mohill,
Carrigallen, Ballinamore Primary Care Team area.
All of the
above are provided in conjunction with other agencies and organisations
from the voluntary and statutory sector.
