Leitrim Development Company invite all interested residents, community groups and businesses within the Tullaghan, Kinlough and Rossinver Areas to a discussion on the outcomes of the recent Wild Atlantic Salmon Experience Feasibility Study.
Date: Thursday 22nd November
Time: 7:30pm
Venue: Rossinver Community Centre
This project set about identifying the many assets of a potential Wild Atlantic Salmon Experience and engaging with people, businesses, communities and a variety of agencies and organisations to assess their feasibility for an experience development. It was acknowledged that there was little public awareness that County Leitrim actually formed part of the Wild Atlantic Way and that there are difficulties for businesses in Leitrim in harnessing an increase in visitor numbers and economic activity from this national tourism marketing initiative route. The Tullaghan Coastline in County Leitrim, nestled between Sligo and Donegal, is the shortest coastline of any county in Ireland and it forms part of the Wild Atlantic Way. It is from this short but significant coastline that the Wild Atlantic Salmon makes their journey inland to their spawning grounds in Rossinver and Garrison each year, following the meandering Rivers Drowes and Duff. The Wild Atlantic Salmon Experience is based on this unique environment the rivers, hills and lake and the people, their heritage and stories and on the tourism businesses and services therein.
This project received grant aid from Leitrim Local Community Development Committee under the Rural Development Programme which is financed by the Irish Government under the Rural Development Programme Ireland 2014-2020 and by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development: Europe Investing in Rural Areas.
