Leitrim Development Company were delighted to work with Leave No Trace Ireland under the Outdoor Recreational Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS) to develop new resources and marketing materials to support the promotion of responsible outdoor recreation across Leitrim.
The Covid pandemic has shown us all the importance of outdoor recreation for both our physical health and mental wellbeing. Here in Leitrim, we have all embraced the outdoors, making use of the amazing walking and cycling routes, and generally exploring the extraordinary natural beauty that the county has to offer. Seeing so many enjoying the outdoors, it is now more important than ever that we learn to protect and care for our outdoor spaces, so that they are not put under strain from our increased use.
Funding has enhanced communication and awareness campaigns to generate a greater awareness of the benefits of outdoor recreation, and promoting the positive Leave No Trace message. Funding was provided for new marketing and promotional materials, including trainer uniforms, that help in raising the visibility of the Leave No Trace message and brand. This investment has also allowed Leave No Trace to promote sustainable, reusable containers over single use plastics, and provide a branded tarp mobile shelter for outdoor education. All of resources raise the visibility and awareness around the core Leave No Trace principles and support the delivery of accredited Leave No Trace training programmes in Leitrim that aim to protect and enhance the wealth of natural and outdoor recreational spaces we have through the county.
