The Leitrim Warmer Homes project is a Community Services Programme,
run by the Leitrim Development Company aimed at improving the living
conditions of elderly people and people with disabilities living in
Co Leitrim.
The project, which is funded by both Sustainable Energy Authority of
Ireland (SEAI) and Pobal has two major objectives. Firstly, the project
provides an insulation service in the homes of the elderly and of people
with disabilities and secondly carries out small home repairs. Already
over 200 homes in the county have benefitted from the work carried out
by the team of workers employed with the project.
The service provides for the insulation of attics, the lagging of both
hot and cold water tanks and the draught proofing of windows and doors.
In addition the team provide energy advice to householders as to how
they may make the most efficient use of their heating systems. The programme
now offers in specific cases a cavity wall insulation service as part
of the package.
The work also involves repair and maintenance work, varying from small
work such as fixing a lock to larger work like plastering and carpentry.
The project team also installs smoke alarms on behalf of the Fire Service
of Leitrim County Council in all the homes they visit.
